The Great Wall of China

There is a sense of achievment when climbing the wall, it's as if another sense takes over your body, and inspires you to keep going. I can only imagine this motivation must have existed in the original planners. Whatever this spirit is I can only tell you, it beckons you back again for another venture..!

The Wall

Autumn may not be the most inspiring time of the year, yet when viewing the mountain at such a time it is just that..!
The leaves and forestry turning browning seems to compliment and blend the walls like a natural artist.

The Wall

The icy frost of winter experiments with natures paints, and blends an icy crust on to the wall giving it a look of Jade. Not unlike a monumentally sized home when decorated with Christmas lights.

The Wall

Again the crumbling parts of the wall, beg to be repaired, but even in this condition it still retains its splendour and grace.

The Wall

Sunset, and nature attempts another picturesque view.

The Wall

The wall almost looks warm, and no matter what angle you take your photo, it reflects true character and beauty.

The Wall

The above depicts some of the incredible mountains the wall takes in its stride.

The Wall

Crossing mountain after mountain, in its quest to keep the defence of China intact.

The Wall

No-one at the time of building, could have ever imagined the far reaching consequences of their skills. Every person ever born would like some kind of claim to fame, and being one of those who took on the challenge of building the wall, has succeeded in just that..! It stands as a monument to the brave, and a credit to its nation, giving a justly deserved pride in an achievment unparalleled by any other nation in the world today.

The Wall

Juyong Pass is situated in hangping county, about 50 kilometres from downtown Beijing. Its nestled in a ravine between two mountains and provides total protection to northwest Beijing. The walls flow down the mountains on both sides coming together and served by two main gates, and walled in at the southern gate. Emperor Taizu (Genghis Khan) of the Yang Dynasty had once been there on one of his epic battles. In the Yuan Dynasty (1268) a marble platform was built inside the pass. Underneath the platform are four bas-relief sculptures of the four heavenly kings, and Buddhist incantations in Sanskrit. Tibetan, Mongolian, Uygur, Han and Xixia niches are scooped into the wall, with over 2000 Buddhist sculptures done during the Yuan Dynasty. It is known as Juyong Verdure, and is a very famous scenic spot.
